Straight
Golf Stategy
The first word that has been often misunderstood is the word straight. Now most people think they know what  the word straight means, however in the world of golf it carries a surprisingly different meaning
In golf language the word straight means a curve. To take the club straight back means that the golf club will moving on two curves. It will be curving up away from the ground and it will be curving inside the target line. This is the function of the spine which rotates the club from in front of you to behind you and returns it in front of you again and your shoulder joints by way of the arms moving the club up and down.

  A lin
e from the ball to the target we think of as a straight line. However the ball rarely travels straight after being struck, even in putting. A shot we hit straight down the fairway or straight at the flag will have curved up and down. It may look straight from where it was hit, but to an observer on another fairway it would appear that the ball has taken quite a curved path to the target.

So when someone reads in abook or is told that they have to take the club straight back it is almost impossible to not get the wrong idea if they don't understand that straight does not mean straight.
